Lavender essential oil is an anti-depressant, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, aphrodisiac, astringent, antivenom, emmemagogue, hemostatic sedative and tonic according to Larissa Jones in her book, Aromatherapy for Body, Mind, and Spirit (available at the RoseSprings store). It is great for acne, anger, anxiety, bruises, burns, sunburn, cuts, convulsions, eczema, psoriasis, hair loss, headache and migraine, hiccups, hypertension, infection, insect bites, insect repellent, insomnia, inflammation, leucorrhea, muscle spasms, pain, palpitations, rash, scabies scares, vaginitis and wounds.
This extensive list means that every household medicine cabinet should contain a bottle of Lavender essential oil. Some companies add chemicals or adulterate essential oils so it is important to trust the brand that you use. Adulterated versions will not give you the medical results that a pure version will. The brand we carry at RoseSprings is 100% pure.
Try dropping a few drops straight out of the bottle on bug bites. Not only can Lavender help with the itching and/or stinging, but it can also calm an upset child. Two benefits in one!
For a sunburn try putting Lavender essential oil and water in a spray bottle to spray on the burn. We carry a great 2 oz. bottle with a fine mist sprayer that is perfect for this. Just fill it with 2 oz. of pure water and add 8-10 drops of Lavender essential oil. Be sure to shake before each use. Kids love to be sprayed instead of having a cream rubbed in when the burn is too sensitive for rubbing.
Mix 1-2 tablespoons rubbing alcohol with 10 drops of Lavender and 5 drops of Peppermint essential oils. Use a cotton ball to rub this mixture completely around your hair line. Be sure to get behind the ears and around the neck and forehead. If you really do not like the smell or rubbing alcohol you may use vodka instead.
