Hot stone massage is a variation on the classic relaxation massage and dates back to ancient times. Heated smooth, flat stones are placed on key points on the body, after which the massage therapist may also hold the stones and use them to massage certain areas of the body.
My husband and I recently took a couples massage class with massage therapist Cara Cardon. It was a great class and super informative. She even brought in small basalt stones for us to use and told us that basalt rocks are the best rocks for hot stone massages because they hold the heat for a long time. Cara has wonderful energy and provided lots of information on how to properly begin and end a massage also.
We started by holding certain points on the feet to get the energy moving through the body, then held the spot we were going to massage, so we could say “hello, I am here” to that part of the body, then we eased into applying pressure where needed. We worked with hot and cold stones as directed by Cara and to end this wonderful experience we caressed our partners heads and connected by laying one hand on their heart. This all created the perfect conclusion to our perfect couple sacred time.
Cara is not only great at massage, but great at teaching you how to apply massage to ease stress and tension in the body. Book with Cara by clicking on Schedule Now.
