Meditation for Stress Relief

By Vijay Wick

While stress relief can be achieved in many ways, meditation is one of the best. There is a wide variety of meditations. My approach is similar to how a child should be brought up. When a child reacts to external stimuli in a harmful way, he/she needs to be stopped by saying "No", because educating the child about the particular situation may not be possible (at the child's level) or may be too slow. However, as the child grows, the child needs to be educated, so that there will be less and less need to say "No".

So I do "discipline meditation" and "insight meditation". As you progress, there'll be less and less need for discipline meditation while insight meditation will start to feel moreand more natural. The meditations I do are religion independent. Insight meditation will be based on unbiased observation of own self. Discipline meditation will be based on generally accepted common sense.

This will be a group sit rather than a class. However, I will help you get started and provide guidance as needed, up to where I have been to. I have been meditating for about 10 years, but I am certainly not "there" yet (although I have been transformed quite a bit on how I react to situations). If you have questions that I cannot answer, or reach levels that I haven't been to, then I will help you find the answers or find someone who can guide you.

Having mentioned some of the benefits of meditation, please don't sit down to meditate to achieve anything. Meditation should be done to enjoy the moment (enjoyment from reduced stress at that moment). Any future benefits will come automatically.
