Massage for Cancer
The Cancer Community Renewal Project sponsored a special class to teach local massage therapists Manual Lymph Drainage Therapy for Cancer Survivors last April 26-27, 2008. This special class was taught in Vernonia, OR by Heather Lewis, LMT, CLT, NT and was partially paid for by the Susan G Komen foundation. This is the first class, of hopefully many, taught by this organization to teach local therapists this much needed skill. Four of our RoseSprings massage therapists attended the class. Jean Knutson attended as the assistant teacher and Elaine Smith, Carole Cotten-Figueiredo, and Lazette Harnish all attended as students. 20 local massage therapists were invited to attend the training and all have agreed to offer massage to cancer survivors.
Cancer survivors may get one free Lymph Drainage massage by contacting the Cancer Community Renewal Project (www.cancer-renewal.org) and asking for registration forms. The forms are then brought to a massage therapist of your choice. Because each massage therapist will give one free massage per month, this program allows for 240 cancer survivors to experience this treatment this year. The four RoseSprings massage therapists who attended this event feel very blessed to have been included in this needed education and opportunity for local cancer survivors.
